The event was held in Santiago de Compostela, in the framework of the 7th International Meeting on Biotechnology BioSpain 2014

The first Edition of 3PBio Forum took place this morning in Santiago de Compostela and has brought together 80 people from Biotech and Biopharma companies, Universities and Institutions. This is the first Edition of 3PBio Forum, a biotech event created by 3P Biopharmaceuticals whose aim is to become an annual meeting for international Biotech and Biopharma leaders.

3PBio Forum began with the initial session “The challenge of Partner Selection: the best travel companion in biopharma development adventure”, with a panel discussion composed of Top-level executives from 3P Biopharmaceuticals, Laboratorios Leti, Genticel and Covance.

The aim of the session was to share with the audience how Biotech companies and service providers understand each other and how to build a good relationsip to make drug development a success story.

Charles Christy, Associate Director of BioCMC Solutions-Covance, explained how 3P and Covance offer together complementary capabilities in stability studies, validation of analytics, regulatory and quality assurance services and cell bank manufacturing, characterization and storage. COVANCE is one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive drug development services companies in the international market.

Philippe Bridonneau, Director of Manufacturing, Process & Control at Genticel, talked about the advantages of working with CMO/CRO partners that have allowed them to speed up the development time necessary to take ProCervix from laboratory to the clinic, and to speed up the phase II Clinical Trial Application (CTA) process. Genticel is a biotech company that develops therapeutic vaccines for women cervical cancer caused by human papillomavirus (HPV).

Ellen Caldwell, Unit Head of Immunology and Vaccines at Laboratorios Leti, gave during her talk the five keys she considers can’t be overlooked when looking for a bioproccesing partner: Experience, Technical capabilities, Quality system, Economics and was called as the “soft” stuff. She concluded that in Biopharma, the product is the process; and if it is not robust and can not be replicated, the product doesn’t exist. Laboratorios Leti is a research-focused, independent, and family owned, biopharmaceutical company with business units: Allergy, Dermatology, Diagnostics and Immunology and Vaccines.

During his speech, Dámaso Molero, General Manager at 3P Biopharmaceuticals, said that the goal in every single project is to establish a long term solid and stable client-partner relationship. According to 3P Biopharmaceuticals the key success factors for this long term partnership are the establishment of a Go/No-Go methodology, the reservation of plant capacity for the execution of the complete project, flexibility and integral service offer, confidentiality, patent free technology, and implicated and team spirit based multidisciplinary teams.

After the breakout session all the attendees met for refreshments in Hotel Puerta del Camino. where, Dámaso Molero, highlighted the key milestones in the history of the company and the strategy the company will pursue in the future to consolidate its position as a reference CMO in the international market..
